On my phone line, increased volume quickly turns into quite a bit of noise and hiss. My Panasonic KX-TG 5421 cordless phone with voice enhancer turns out to work better than the w1000. I purchased the Clarity w1000 to overcome the noise from a room air conditioner. This is more annoying than straining to hear the caller. I probably should have returned the w1000. It usually worked adequately for this task. However, sometimes or perhaps often a little more volume would have been useful.
Seems to work great. Elsewhere on amazon i found the W1000 with 33dB amplification, so perhaps I purchased a 'remaindered' version. Try to find a corded phone is difficult these days. This version of the product is documented as offering up to 26dB amplification. I could not find the W1000 on the WalMart website. I actually found the Plantronics / Walker W1000 phone at WalMart in Rice Lake, WI (715-234-6990) for $34.88. Brought it home, plugged it in and tried it out.
